| Hazard Assessment Issues |
 |
Procter & Gamble's approach to establishing product safety is based on the use of risk assessment. Risk assessment is a well-recognized process that has been used by government authorities, industry and the scientific community for several decades. It is designed to establish the likelihood that people or the environment will be exposed to harmful levels of a substance, based on a scientific evaluation of both the potential hazards of a chemical (e.g., toxicity), and potential exposures to it. Like all scientific methods, risk assessment is constantly evolving as new knowledge becomes available. Here we provide perspective on some of the issues that are currently under discussion regarding the hazard assessment part of the risk assessment process. |
| Genomics/Toxicogenomics |
New scientific methods, called genomics, now enable scientists to evaluate how chemicals could affect the expression of genes in our bodies. What are P&G's views concerning its application to chemical hazard assessment and product safety?
